Bill Bonsai: your AWS bill, ready to prune.
Every branch is a service, every leaf a line of your bill, sized by what it costs. Flip on Color by change and the leaves that grew since last month turn red: those are the ones to prune. The list underneath has the exact numbers. Free, and it runs entirely in your browser.

01 Is my bill uploaded anywhere? +
No. The file is read and drawn by this page, in your browser. There is no backend behind the tool, no account, and nothing is stored. You can load the page, turn off your network, and drop the file.
02 What access does the CloudShell command need? +
Only
ce:GetCostAndUsage, which is read-only and sees costs, never resources. Run it in your management (payer) account to see every linked account; a member account sees its own costs. Cost Explorer must be enabled on the account.03 Does running it cost anything? +
AWS bills Cost Explorer API calls at $0.01 per request. Twelve months by service and usage type is usually one page, sometimes two or three on large accounts.
04 What do USE1, USW2, EU- mean in usage types? +
They are AWS region codes:
USE1 is us-east-1, USW2 us-west-2, APS3 ap-south-1, and eu-west-1 uses the older EU- (or EUW1-). Usage types without a prefix are billed in us-east-1 or are global. In CloudFront, US-, EU- and JP- are edge geographies, not regions. The Region view groups by these codes, so it works without a third grouping.05 What does “Color by change” compare? +
The selected month against the month before it. On the bonsai, a leaf turns yellow, then red as it grows (full red at +50% or more, or when it is new), deep green as it shrinks, and stays light green when flat. The treemap uses the same rule in red, grey and green. Pick an earlier month in the month menu to compare any two consecutive months.
06 Why is “EC2 - Other” so big? +
Cost Explorer files EBS volumes and snapshots, NAT gateways, Elastic IPs and data transfer under “EC2 - Other”, apart from instance hours. Click it to see which one it is: NAT gateway bytes and old snapshots are the usual surprises.
07 Which numbers does it show? +
Unblended cost, the same default as Cost Explorer. Credits and refunds are netted into the lines they apply to; a line that ends up negative isn't drawn, but the totals include it.
Is CI one of your big EC2 branches?
RunsOn runs your GitHub Actions jobs on EC2 spot instances in your own AWS account, from one CloudFormation stack. On Linux that is 5–14× under GitHub-hosted runners per minute, and the cost shows up in your bonsai as plain EC2.
