EC2 Instance family: r6idn

The Amazon EC2 r6idn instance type was released on November 28, 2022, as part of a new generation of memory-optimized instances designed for network-intensive workloads. These instances are powered by 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors (Ice Lake 8375C) with an all-core turbo frequency of 3.5 GHz.

Key features of the r6idn instances include up to 200 Gbps of network bandwidth, offering double the performance of previous R5n/R5dn instances, and up to 100 Gbps of Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) bandwidth with up to 400K IOPS. They also deliver up to 20% higher memory bandwidth per vCPU compared to R5n and R5dn instances and come with up to 7.6 TB of local NVMe SSD storage. The r6idn instances support Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) on their 32xlarge and metal sizes, incorporate Intel Total Memory Encryption (TME) for always-on memory encryption, and leverage Intel Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX-512) for enhanced cryptographic processing. These instances are built on the AWS Nitro System and are well-suited for memory-intensive applications such as SAP, SQL, and NoSQL databases, as well as in-memory databases like SAP HANA.
